Tehran, IRNA – Prime Minister of the Palestinian Autonomous Authority Mohammed Shtayyeh has declared he stepped down.

Shtayyeh said he handed his resignation to President Mahmoud Abbas a week ago, IRNA cited Palestinian news agency Samaa on Monday.

Shtayyeh says that he remains committed to the martyrs and captives, the people in Gaza, Holy Quds, Palestine’s national project, and sanctities and heroes despite the unprecedented siege over Gaza.

“The decision to resign came in light of the unprecedented escalation in the West Bank and (occupied) Jerusalem and the war, genocide and starvation in the Gaza Strip,” Arab media quoted Shtayyeh as saying.

Since the start of the war in Gaza in October 2023, over 29,000 Palestinians, mostly children and women, have been killed in Gaza.
