Tehran, IRNA - Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Ahmed Gurbanov met on Wednesday with Ali Bagheri, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs in Tehran.

According to IRNA's foreign policy group, Gurbanov and Bagheri discussed bilateral relations and exchange views on ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries.

The two diplomats also assessed regional and international developments and emphasized the necessity of continuing consultations between the two neighboring countries.

Gurbanov served his country as ambassador to Iran before taking the role of deputy foreign minister of Turkmenistan. 

Iran and Turkmenistan share a common border of more than 1000 km.

Since Turkmenistan's independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, Tehran and Ashgabat have enjoyed good relations and have cooperated in economic, transportation, infrastructure development, and energy sectors.
