Goodarzi said on Monday that some 1.083 metric tons (mt) of illegal drugs had been seized in border regions of Saravan county in Sistan and Baluchestan province.
He said the haul included 1.06 mt of opium and 23 kilograms of methamphetamine, adding that drug traffickers had fled the scene of confrontation with border police.
The Commander of Iran's Headquarters for Fighting Narcotics Eskandar Momeni said earlier on Tuesday that drug trafficking via Iranian territory had decreased by 20% due to increased risks facing the smugglers operating at borders and inside the country.
Iran is responsible for nearly 59% of morphine seizures and 27% of the heroin confiscations in the world.
