Tehran, IRNA – Sudanese Foreign Minister Ali Al-Sadiq Ali is scheduled to pay a visit to Tehran on Monday upon an invitation by his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amirabdollahian.

The visit takes place a few months after the two counties announced the resumption of their diplomatic ties.

In a joint statement in October 2023, Iran and Sudan announced that they had resumed diplomatic relations after seven years.

The announcement said that the two countries would reopen their embassies in the near future.

Sudan cut off ties with Iran following the severing of diplomatic relations between Tehran and Saudi Arabia in early 2016.

Tehran and Riyadh restored their relations under a China-brokered deal in March 2023.
