The high-ranking officials of Iraqi Kurdistan parties, including the head of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, governors of Sulaymaniyah and Halabja, and cultural figures and professors from universities and different strata of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region participated in the ceremony on Thursday.
Also, the anniversary of the martyrdom of the two top commanders was held on Thursday morning in all schools in Iraq.
General Soleimani, the former commander of the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, was assassinated along with Iraqi top commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the deputy head of the Popular Mobilization Units, in a US drone strike ordered by ex-president Donald Trump near Baghdad International Airport on January 3, 2020.
Both commanders were highly popular because of the key role they played in eliminating the Daesh terrorist group in the region, particularly in Iraq and Syria.
