Tehran, IRNA - Iran’s anti-narcotics police chief has announced the dismantling of a notorious illicit drug distribution network known as the “Scorpion” operating through cyberspace in Tehran.

Brigadier General Iraj Kakavand said on Sunday that the operation against the Scorpion network represents a blow to online drug trafficking.

Based on intelligence gathered from social networks and websites, the anti-narcotics police identified an address for a hideout with extensive criminal activities involving the sale of psychotropic pills, he said.

Kakavand said the network’s ringleader, along with two members of the gang, was taken into custody,

In addition, approximately 114,000 psychotropic pills, over 10 kilograms of powder laced with methamphetamine, around 2,000 empty pill containers, more than 3,000 packaging boxes, and 100,000 pill stamps were confiscated, he added.
