Kerman, IRNA – Melika Mohammadi, 23, a female defender of Iran women's national football team, has lost her life in a car crash.

On Saturday night, Mohammadi and her teammates Zahra Khajavi and Behnaz Taherkhani were returning from a training session, when their car overturned near Bam city in Kerman province, southeastern Iran.

As a result of this accident, Mohammadi lost her life immediately and two other football players of the Bam Khatoon Football Club were hospitalized.

Mohammadi represented Iran at the 2022 AFC Women's Asian Cup qualification.

Iran Football League Organization plans to pay tribute to the national team football player in the fourteenth week of the Persian Gulf Pro League competitions.

A local police chief said that a male driver’s fatigue and drowsiness as well as high speed ended up in one dead and three injured in the accident.
