Tehran, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani has called on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to take measures to make the Zionist regime put an immediate and complete end to its attacks against Gaza, the West Bank, and other parts of the region.

Speaking on Thursday, Kanaani welcomed an act by the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres to make use of his power under Article 99 of the UN Charter to ask the UNSC to stop the Zionist attacks against Gaza.

As the secretary general has stressed in his letter, the scope of the attacks against Gaza, the killing of the civilians, particularly women and children, destruction of civil areas, including hospitals, and the forced migrating of a remarkable part of the Gazan people are a threat against the peace and security in the region, the spokesman said.

He stressed that stopping the attacks and paving the way for the immediate dispatch of humanitarian supplies to Gaza are right measures which are expected from the secretary general as his legal and ethical duties.

Kanaani also underlined the role of the UNSC which he said has the legal duties for preventing the aggression and threats against international peace and security.

He noted that the UNSC cannot shun responsibility in this regard under any excuse.
