Amirabdollahian made the remarks while speaking to reporters in Moscow on Tuesday after signing a declaration with participation of his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov.
Under the declaration, Iran and Russia have reached an agreement on countering the West's unilateral sanctions and offsetting those restrictions.
After the signing ceremony, Amirabdollahian told reporters that it took place within the framework of Tehran’s initiative announced three years ago for forming a union between the countries under the West's coercive unilateral sanctions.
Answering a question about Iran’s stance on the Caspian Sea in the northern country, Amirabdollahian said the littoral states should make use of this sea of friendship to develop their economic relations and complete transit projects.
About the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea, Amirabdollahian said the Iranian Foreign Ministry is pursuing a mechanism for comprehensive cooperation in the Sea to be understandable for all members and safeguard the Islamic Republic’s maximum economic interests.
Amirabdollahian attended the regular foreign ministerial meeting between Iran, Russia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan in Moscow on December 5.
