Tehran, IRNA - Presidents and high-ranking officials of Iran and Cuba have signed seven cooperation documents and a joint statement.

Memoranda of understanding were signed between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Cuba in science and technology, health, agriculture, energy and mining, communications, and medicine fields, the IRNA reported on Monday.

The documents were signed by the deputy president for science and technology, ministers of agricultural Jihad, and Labor and Social Welfare.

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel arrived in Tehran on Monday.

Upon arrival at Mehrabad airport in western Tehran late on Sunday, the Cuban president was welcomed by Iranian Minister of Health Bahram Eynollahi.

On Monday morning, the visiting Cuban president is to be officially welcomed by his Iranian counterpart Ebrahim Raisi at Saadabad cultural complex in northern Tehran.

Holding private talks, attending joint meetings between the two sides’ delegations, signing several cooperation agreements, and participating in the joint press briefing are among the plans of the Cuban president in Tehran.

Today's visit of Miguel Díaz-Canel to Tehran is the first after the travel of the late Cuban president Fidel Castro to Iran about 23 years ago.
