Tehran, IRNA – The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas expects the four-day Gaza ceasefire to be extended, a senior member of the movement says.

“Our goal is to ensure a humanitarian ceasefire and we are working on that. God willing, [it will be extended] but it depends on the possible handover of other [war prisoners],” Basem Naim told TASS news agency.

Hamas announced on Wednesday that it had reached a humanitarian ceasefire with the Zionist regime over its war on the besieged Gaza Strip.

The deal, which went into force on Friday morning, stipulated the release of 50 Israeli war prisoners held in Gaza in exchange for the release of 150 Palestinian women and children from Israeli prisons.

Hamas launched a surprise attack, dubbed Operation Al-Aqsa Storm, against the Zionist regime on October 7 in retaliation for the regime’s occupation and crimes against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.

In response, Israel waged a bloody war on Gaza that has so far killed at least 14,532 Palestinians, including at least 6,000 children and 4,000 women.
