Ashgabat, IRNA – The 17th meeting of the intergovernmental committee between Ashgabat and Tehran concluded on Saturday evening with Turkmenistan’s Foreign Minister, Rashid Meredov, describing the talks as constructive.

The meeting, held in Turkmenistan’s capital, saw several proposals presented to promote bilateral relations, Meredov said announcing Turkmenistan’s readiness to increase gas exports to Iran in the near future.

About five years ago, Turkmenistan signed a gas deal with Iran and started implementing it, and the country is still ready to develop gas cooperation with the Islamic Republic, he noted.

Swap of gas is still underway and Turkmenistan is keen to continue its implementation, he added.

Elsewhere, Meredov talked of the electricity cooperation between the two countries, expressing Turkmenistan’s readiness to export gas to third countries through Iran.

Under the current swap agreement, Iran receives gas from Turkmenistan and delivers an equivalent amount of its own gas to Azerbaijan.
