Tehran, IRNA - Iran's Vice President Mohammad Mokhber and Prime Minister of the Republic of Cuba Manuel Marrero Cruz have urged bolstering trade and economic ties between Tehran and Havana.

During a meeting with the Cuban Prime Minister on Sunday, Mokhber said that using barter mechanisms, financial cooperation, as well as transactions through the national currency of Iran and Cuba, are necessary for developing economic cooperation between Tehran and Havana.

He underlined that “there is no reason for the two countries to trade by using the enemy’s currency”.

Referring to the positive position of the late Cuban leader Fidel Castro among Iranians since the Islamic Revolution, Mokhber noted that close relations between the two countries have been formed after the victory of the Islamic Revolution, while both countries have a common enemy that has taken cowardly actions against the two nations.

Pointing to the atrocities of the Zionist regime in Gaza, he described the Zionist regime’s actions in Gaza as a clear example of war crimes and crimes against humanity, noting that if the international courts had legitimacy, they should have seriously stopped and tried the inhumane actions of the Zionist regime and the US.

Mokhber expressed Iran's readiness to cooperate with Cuba in the field of energy, reconstruction of Cuban refineries, and modern technologies, adding that the joint commission of the two countries needs to be activated and draw up a roadmap for expanding economic relations between the two countries, and provide a platform for signing agreements between the presidents of the two countries.

Marrero, for his part, termed Iran-Cuba constructive ties as significant for his government and people, noting that Cuba’s approach and serious efforts are to strengthen and stabilize Tehran-Havana relations, especially in the field of economy and trade"

Referring to the fields of interest for cooperation between the two sides, he highlighted that mining, power, and energy plus biotechnology are important areas of cooperation for the two countries.

Pointing to the developments in Gaza, he reiterated that Cuba condemns the killing of Palestinians by the Zionist regime and believes that what the Zionists did to the Palestinians is just like what the Nazis did to the Jews.
