Tehran, IRNA – A senior Iranian lawmaker has said that Iran and South Africa enjoy relations at a good level, and there is no dark point in the history of their cooperation.

Mojtaba Zonnouri, the vice-speaker of Iran’s Majlis (Parliament), made the remarks in a meeting held in Angola on the sidelines of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) session with Speaker of the House of South Africa Nosiviwe Noluthando Mapisa-Nqakula.

In his remarks, Zonnouri thanked Johannesburg for its support for Tehran’s accession to the BRICS emerging economies of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. The Islamic Republic of Iran officially became a member of the BRICS bloc in August 2023.

The senior member of parliament said Iran welcomes the development of parliamentary ties with South Africa in line with helping other governments.

An Iranian delegation with 18 members has participated in the 147th Assembly of the IPU and its related meetings in Angola from October 23 to 27.
