Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi has described the ongoing developments in Gaza as a horrible crime against defenseless children and women, which is taking place under direct support of the US and other Western states.

Raisi made the comment during a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Tehran on Monday, hours after the top Russian diplomat attended a meeting of the 3+3 format, joining counterparts from Iran, Turkiye, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Raisi also referred to a comment by US President Joe Biden who had said that “If there were not an Israel, we'd have to invent one.”

The Iranian president said that Biden’s remark means that the US seeks to establish its own interests even at the cost of the lives of children and women as well as the destruction of the homes of the Palestinian people.

Today, the US is trying to get resolutions approved at the UN Security Council in order to achieve whatever it has been unable to attain on the field when it comes to protecting its racist interests and supporting the Zionist regime, Raisi said.

This is why nations are hopeful that Russia, with regard to its position and influence at the Security Council, prevents the US from achieving its goal, he added.

President Raisi and Lavrov discussed other issues as well, including Iran-Russia relations and the 3+3 format, which aims to find a permanent solution to disputes between Azerbaijan and Armenia and strengthen stability in the Caucasus region.

The top Russian diplomat said that the Monday meeting held in Tehran stressed that regional issues should be resolved without the interference of extra-regional powers.
