In a statement on Wednesday, Kanaani condemned and rejected “some baseless claims” raised about the three Iranian islands in the Co-Chairs’ Statement of the 27th (P)GCC-EU Joint Council and Ministerial Meeting that had been issued a day earlier.
He reiterated Iran’s fundamental and permanent position on the three islands and said that they are inseparable and eternal parts of the Iranian territory.
The spokesman criticized the EU countries for trying to create tensions in the Persian Gulf to gain some commercial benefits from selling weapons and military equipment to countries in the region.
Kanaani also rejected claims raised in the (P)GCC-EU joint statement about Iran’s nuclear activities, saying Iran will continue to observe international obligations that govern its peaceful nuclear program.
