Tehran, IRNA – Iranian professor of Persian language and literature Mohammad Reza Rashed Mohassel has passed away at the age of 87.

Rashed Mohassel died of old age early on Wednesday, according to a report by IRNA’s cultural desk.

The professor was originally from Iran’s eastern Birjand region and had taught Persian language and literature for nearly 50 years in various Iranian universities, including in the cities of Ahvaz, Tabriz, Mashhad and Birjand. 

He was a prominent researcher of Shahnameh, a book of epic poems by the great Iranian poet Ferdowsi (931–1025) which narrates historical stories of Iran’s pre-Islamic era.
