Hangzhou, IRNA – Donya Aghaei has won a silver medal in the competitions of the Hangzhou Asian Games to become the first female Iranian kurash wrestler to snatch an international medal.

Aghaei lost to her Chinese rival Dan Yu in the final of the women’s -70kg.

This Iranian athlete had defeated Chia Wen Tsou of Chinese Taipei and Uzbekistan’s Malikakhon Kakhorova before booking her place in the final.

The 2022 Asian Games also known as Hangzhou 2022 is a continental multi-sport event currently being held from 23 September to 8 October 2023 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China.

Iran has sent 289 male and female athletes to the Games in 34 sports divisions.
