New York, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has held talks with his Brazilian counterpart Mauro Vieira in New York.

Meeting on the sidelines of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly in New York on Friday, Amirabdollahian thanked Brazil for endorsing the Islamic Republic of Iran’s membership in the BRICS group of emerging economies.

Referring to a “very good meeting” between the presidents of Iran and Brazil in Johannesburg, he said that Tehran is ready to develop its ties with Brasília in the bilateral format and within BRICS.

“We have entered the 120th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, and given this occasion, it is necessary to have special plans,” he said.

The chief Iranian diplomat also invited his Brazilian counterpart to visit Iran, which was welcomed by Vieira, and the two sides agreed to plan the visit at an appropriate time.

Vieira, for his part, said his country attaches importance to its relations with Iran and expressed Brasília’s readiness to increase the relations between the two countries’ public and private sectors.

During the meeting, the two sides highlighted the need to speed up the process of holding the joint commission for economic cooperation between the two countries and to support bilateral private-sector cooperation.
