Tehran, IRNA – Azerbaijan has launched a new military operation in Karabakh which it says is in response to the deaths of two Azerbaijani forces by mines planted by Armenian soldiers in the region, AZERTAC news agency said, citing an announcement by Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Defense.

The announcement accused the Armenian forces of inciting fear and planting mines.

Armenian local news media also cited a member of parliament of the self-proclaimed Karabakh republic as saying that the region had been under artillery attack of the Azerbaijani forces for 30 minutes.

Armenia says it has no military units in the Karabakh region, rejecting claims made by Azerbaijan as misleading.
