Tehran, IRNA – The head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Football Federation (IRIFF) and Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Tehran have conferred on the issues of joint federations’ memoranda of understanding (MoUs), as well as expansion of reciprocal measures.

On the threshold of Persepolis and Al Nassr football match in the Iranian capital city of Tehran in the Asian Champions League, Mehdi Taj met and held talks with Abdullah bin Saud al-Anzi on Sunday.

Persepolis football team of Iran will host Saudi Arabia's Al Nassr, captained by Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo, in the 2023/24 AFC Champions League group stage in Tehran's Azadi Stadium on September 19.

Following an agreement between the football federations of Iran and Saudi Arabia, which was communicated to the AFC, all national and club matches between the two countries will be played as home-and-away fixtures.

The AFC stated that this new development demonstrates the commitment of both football federations to establishing closer relations and hosting matches in their home stadiums while visiting rival clubs.The home-and-away matches for the 2023-2024 AFC Champions League involving Iranian and Saudi Arabian teams will begin on September 19.
