Tehran, IRNA – More than 16.5 million students will go to schools across Iran next Saturday when the country’s new school year begins, according to Minister of Education Reza-Morad Sahraei.

The minister said that 1.7 million first graders will go to school for the first time this year.

He also said that as much as 30,000 of the applicants for university entrance exam were admitted to teacher’s training universities across the country this year, a figure that has been unprecedented.   

The administration of President Ebrahim Raisi is carrying out some 5,806 school reconstruction projects, some 2,644 of which are being fully operated by the government and the rest 3,162 are being done through intersectoral collaboration projects, with 813 of the projects being conducted in the impoverished Sistan-Baluchestan Province in southeastern country, the minister noted.

Sahraei said that 2,020 projects will be completed before the beginning of the school year.
