Tehran, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani says that the European Parliament’s anti-Iran positions in recent years have damaged the relations between Iran and the European Union.

In reaction to the anti-Iran stances of the speaker of the European Parliament and some representatives of the European Union, Kanaani said on Wednesday that it is strongly expected from the EU not to allow some representatives to make counterproductive, unfounded statements contradictory to alleged attempts to maintain a path of contact and dialogue with the Islamic Republic.

He added that such positions and statements are in line with the continuation of a failed policy towards the realities of Iranian society, policy, and people.

Using the logic of intervention and resorting to useless political propaganda pressure against the logic of readiness for interaction based on mutual respect and common interests, shows the lack of seriousness and dishonesty of some elements in Europe in dealing with Iran more than ever, he noted.

Commenting on the interventionist remarks made yesterday by some members of the European Parliament on Iran’s internal issues are clearly reflecting the impact of some European politicians from the misinformation campaigns, he further noted.

Claiming baseless charges against the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding certain foreign nationals and prisoners who have committed crimes based on clear documents and other derogatory and unsubstantiated claims against the country's organs and institutions, all indicate that some EU officials insist on continuing to take confrontational positions against the people and government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, he underlined.

He went on to say that such approaches against Iran are in stark contrast to what is being expressed by EU officials based on communication and dialogue with Iran.
