Tehran, IRNA - Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has stressed that under cruel and illegal US sanctions, Iran and Malaysia should expand economic and banking ties without using dollars.

Ghalibaf met and held talks with the Foreign Minister of Malaysia Zambry Abdul Kadir in Tehran on Tuesday.

Referring to the recent Malaysian parliamentary elections, Ghalibaf expressed hope that the new Malaysian parliament would boost parliamentary ties with Iran more than before.

Iran always eyes effective communications with ASEAN countries, he said, adding that Iran hopes to strengthen ties in this area by expanding ties with Malaysia.

Pointing to the significance of developing transportation between Iran and Malaysia, especially launching flights between two countries, he underlined that given the distance between the two countries, it is necessary to solve the existing problems for air transportation quickly to facilitate commercial and tourism transportation.

Zambry Abdul Kadir, for his part, stressed the importance of joint activities between Malaysian and Iranian parliaments to develop relations at the level of government, expressing hope that parliamentary cooperation between the two countries can pave the way for the development of relations in other fields.

He added that seven members of parliament are currently members of the Malaysian-Iranian Parliamentary Friendship Group, which are prominent members of the Malaysian parliament.

The top Malaysian diplomat arrived in Tehran on Monday at the invitation of his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amirabdollahian.
