Tehran, IRNA – Iranian deputy health minister Saeed Karimi has estimated that the country generated $1 billion in revenue from health tourists visiting Iran in the previous Iranian calendar year (ending on March 20, 2023).

More than 1,200,000 health tourists visited Iran last year, and if each of these tourists had spent $1,000 in Iran, the country would have earned more than $1 billion, Karimi said on Tuesday.

Karimi also mentioned that there are 45,000 empty beds that can be used for health tourism and 30,000 medical centers, apart from doctor’s offices.

There are 250 medical centers with international standards that can provide quality services to international patients, he said, adding that there are 60,000 specialists in Iran.
