Tehran, IRNA – Iran's deputy health minister Younes Panahi says that life expectancy in Iran has increased by around 20 years over the past years.

Speaking at the First Student Research and Technology Congress of Iran's Northern region in the city of Babol, Panahi said that life expectancy in Iran was 60 and the figure has increased around 15 to 25 years over the past years.

The official said that an increase in life expectancy reveals that Iran is experiencing an acceleration in population aging.

He added that current birth rate for Iran in 2023 is under 2 births per woman on average.
