Tehran, IRNA – The CEO of the National Association of Coldwater Fish Producers says Iran has exported about 4,000 metric tons (mt) of trout to other countries since the beginning of the current Iranian calendar year on March 21.

Speaking to the IRNA on Saturday, Arash Nabizadeh said Iranian-grown trout had been mainly exported to Russia and Arab countries over March-August.

“The trout produced in Iran is of high quality and standards, so this product is welcomed by Russia. We are trying to export the fish to China in the future,” Nabizadeh said.

He also said Iran produces between 100,000 to 115,000 mt of trout in 7,500 aquafarms across the country, but the country has an annual production capacity of 196,000 to 200,000 mt.

Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, Lorestan, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer Ahmad, and Zanjan provinces produce the largest quantities of trout in the country, he added.
