Tehran, IRNA – Iran produced some 443,000 vehicles in the first four months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21-July 22), says a top official with the country’s Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade (MIMT).

Abdollah Tavakkoli Lahijani, the director of the MIMT auto industries department, told IRNA that the figure shows a 30% increase compared to the same period last year.

He explained that nearly 363,000 passenger vehicles were fully produced in Iran since the beginning of the year, up 41% compared to the 257,000 cars produced in the same period last year.

“In the aforementioned period, 51,000 pickup trucks were produced in the country, which shows a 52% increase compared to the same period last year,” Tavakkoli Lahijani said.

He added that more than 90,000 cars were produced in the private sector in the same period, a nearly 89% increase compared to last year.
