Zahedan, IRNA – The first natural gas burner has been lit in a house in Khash, in Sistan and Baluchestan province, in southeastern Iran, according the governor of the county.

Sahebgol Salehi told IRNA on Sunday that within two months, natural gas will be available to 5,200 households in Khash and that over 18,000 households of this city and its nearby villages will benefit from the energy source by the end of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2024).

Salehi said that natural gas pipelines had reached Khash Cement Company last calendar year.

He said the current administrative government in Iran made it possible to extend gas transfer pipelines from Iranshahr to Khash, located near the border with Pakistan in Iran's relatively impoverished southeast.

Iran possesses one of the largest natural gas supply networks in the globe and official figures show over 87% of Iranians have access to the network through 37,000 kilometers of pipelines. The government plans to provide the whole population with natural gas.
