Tehran, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has urged the Islamic nations to be united in giving a strong response to Sweden over a recent case of the desecration of the holy Quran in the country.

Amirabdollahian made the remarks late on Friday in a telephone conversation with Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Hissein Brahim Taha.

Condemning the recent act of insult that took place in Sweden against the Quran, the Iranian foreign minister proposed holding an emergency meeting of the OIC to review the repetition of the sacrilege against the holy book in Sweden.

For his part, Brahim Taha said in the phone conversation that holding an OIC meeting is on the agenda of the organziation.

The OIC secretary general further condemned the insult in Sweden and elaborated on the measures already taken by the body in this regard.

The two officials also stressed the importance of adopting an appropriate and effective measure to prevent repetition of such acts.

Anger has poured out from Islamic countries over the desecration of holy Quran which was allowed by Swedish authorities earlier this week.

Amirabdollahian announced late on Friday that Iran will neither accept a new ambassador from Sweden nor send a new envoy to the country.
