Tehran, IRNA – Iranian shot putter Mahdi Olad has won gold at the 2023 World Para Athletics Championships underway in Paris, France.

The Iranian sportsman won his first gold medal on the fifth day of the international competitions that began on July 8.

Olad claimed the world shot put crown by setting a record of 13.79 meters, leaving behind his competitors from Brazil and Spain who had won silver and bronze respectively.

The victory in Paris has also granted Olad a paralympic quota, who had won gold at Tokyo Summer Paralympic Games back in 2020.

It serves as the first qualifier event for all athletics events at the 2024 Summer Paralympics.
