Tehran, IRNA – Iran's Vice President for Legal Affairs Mohammad Dehghan has said that violation of the immunity of the Iranian Government, such as confiscating buildings belonging to Iran and confiscating the Iranian students' money that was in the embassy's account in Canada, are among the reasons for Iran's complaint against Canada at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

Dehghan said that since 2012, following the policies of the United States, the government of Canada has violated the immunity of the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, which is contrary to the established rules of customary international law.

He added that in the last 11 years, with political and diplomatic pursuits, Iran has tried to change the behavior of Canada, but unfortunately, Ottawa refused to adhere to the rules of international law.

On June 28, 2023, the legal department of the Iranian president's office lodged a lawsuit against Canada at the ICJ.
