Chabahar, IRNA – As many as 57 fish-rearing cages have been set up in the Sea of Oman in line with plans by the Iranian government to expand fishery activities in the region and to boost the local economy.

Speaking to the IRNA on Sunday, Director General of Sistan and Baluchestan Fisheries Organization said that each cage will provide permanent jobs for three people in the region.

Ataollah Raisi added that the project can boost jobs for local youth and will increase safety of fish hunters in the region.

Raisi said cage fish-rearing is regarded as one of the best methods of fish farming as workers are protected against risks and accidents like storms and piracy while it also leads to increased quality of the harvests based on the investment and the number of cages used.

He said authorities plan to increase the number of fish-rearing cages in the region to 107 to boost fish farming output capacity to over 600 metric tons per year.
