Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the weekly Cabinet session on Wednesday, Mohammad Eslami, the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), was asked about claims by a member of the Iranian parliament that an alleged plan by the AEOI to install 100 new cameras in a plant in Isfahan would be against the Strategic Action Plan to Counter Sanctions, a law adopted by the parliament.
“This is not true. We do not have a power plant in Isfahan where 100 cameras would be installed,” said Eslami.
The AEOI will act in accordance with the strategic action plan, he assured, he said, adding that Iran’s nuclear activities are within the framework of the safeguards agreements adopted by the UN nuclear agency the IAEA.
Iranian lawmakers passed the Strategic Action Plan to Counter Sanctions in December 2020 to counter US sanctions against Tehran and to boost the country’s peaceful nuclear program.
Under the law, the Iranian administration is required to restrict the IAEA’s inspections and accelerate the development of the country’s nuclear program beyond the limits set under a 2015 international deal on Iran nuclear activity which was ditched by Washington in 2018.
Eslami also said that in the agreement reached between Iran and the IAEA in March, the two sides agreed to continue to exchange information as part of the safeguards agreements and the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) requirements.
