Nasser Kanaani made the remarks in a Twitter thread on Tuesday where he referred to a tragic incident in the Mediterranean Sea last week in which a boat carrying hundreds of refugees, including women and children, sank off the coast of Greece.
The West cannot escape from its responsibilities with regards to refugees, Kanaani wrote, adding that most of the refugees move from Africa and Asia to the West due to the US and Europe's incorrect policies.
In his remarks, the spokesman described the boat tragedy that occurred about a week ago off the coast of Greece as a sad and painful incident, expressing sympathy with the grieving families.
At least 81 people lost their lives in the disaster which took place on June 12.
