Tehran, IRNA- Iranian steelmakers have ramped up production of steel ingots and other products during the first two months of the Iranian calendar year (March 21 to May 21, 2023), according to the Iranian Steel Producers Association (ISPA).

ISPA figures published on Sunday showed that Iranian steel companies had produced a total of 6.319 million metric tons (mt) of steel ingots, including slabs, blooms, and billets in the two months to late May, an increase of 7.4% compared to the same period last year.

Additionally, Iranian steelmakers produced 3.932 million mt of finished steel products, including rebars, wire rods, angles, and different types of sheets, during the two months to May 21, an increase of 3.6% year on year.  

Furthermore, the production of sponge iron, a key component in steelmaking, reached 6.723 million mt in March-May, up 2.8% from from the same period last year.
