Tehran, IRNA – Female Iranian taekwondoka Nahid Kiani has won a gold medal at the Baku 2023 World Taekwondo Championships.

The gold medal snatched on Sunday was the first ever for a a female Iranian taekwondoka in the history of world taekwondo championships.

Kiani defeated rivals from South Korea, Hungary and Croatia in the second round before overcoming competitors from Russia and China to become the champion in the women’s-53kg category.

The 26th edition of the World Taekwondo Championships is being held in Baku, Azerbaijan from May 29 to June 4.

Earlier Matin Rezaei and Arian Salimi had won bronze medals in the men section of the tournament.
