Cape Town, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has said that the Islamic Republic’s membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) will be finalized in an upcoming meeting of the Organization in New Dehli, India.

FM Amirabdollahian held talks with his Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on the sidelines of the BRICS+ meeting in the South African capital Cape Town on Friday. 

The Indian foreign minister assured that Iran’s membership in Shanghai will be completed in the imminent SCO summit in New Delhi in accordance with the preplanned schedule.

The 22nd summit of the SCO Council of Heads of State will be held in a virtual format on July 4, 2023.

The BRICS Plus is a grouping of original members Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, together with other countries that are in the process of joining the group.

The two ministers discussed issues of mutual interest. The Iranian top diplomat pointed to his last year's visit to New Delhi, noting that Iran is keen on improving trade, economic, investment, scientific, and technological cooperation with India.
