Islamabad, IRNA – Chairman of the Pakistan Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has criticized the West’s double standards toward cooperation between Iran and Pakistan, adding that his country will not step back from pursuing the joint gas project with the Islamic Republic.

In an exclusive interview with IRNA published on Saturday, Noor Alam Khan said that his country supports joint energy projects with the Islamic Republic, noting that the Iranian gas project is for the benefit of Pakistan.

Referring to the recent meeting of the PAC to investigate potential fines that could incur on Pakistan for failing to complete the Iranian gas project, Alam Khan added that the parliamentary commission asked the officials of Pakistan's foreign ministry to raise the issue with the officials in the United States and announce their position to the Pakistani parliament.

Under the gas agreement with Iran, if Pakistan does not meet its obligations, it should pay $18 billion in fines, he said, adding that the US government must be held responsible because they have opposed the plan.

Alam Khan expressed his support for the implementation of joint energy projects between Pakistan Iran while praising the recent inauguration of the Polan-Gabd electricity transmission line project and said that the Pakistani parliament supports the development of relations with all countries, especially with Iran.
