New York, IRNA – Vedant Patel, the deputy spokesperson of the US State Department, has described Iran’s presiding over the social forum of the United Nations Human Rights Council as "deeply troubling".

The Social Forum of the Human Rights Council has appointed Ali Bahreini – the ambassador of Iran to the UN office in Geneva – as the rotating president of the forum in 2023.

The American official added that the US has not taken part in the sessions of the group and it does not intend to attend them this year.

The Social Forum of the Human Rights Council is slated for November 2-3 in Geneva, where representatives of governments and non-governmental organizations as well as experts will discuss the role of science and technology in upgrading human rights particularly in the post-coronavirus era.
