Torkaman, a silver medalist at the 54th World Mathematical Olympiad in 2013, has managed to defend her doctoral thesis on Geodesic flows on hyperbolic surfaces under the supervision of Professor Curtis McMullen, a winner of Fields Medal, according to a Tuesday report by the IRNA.
Interested in understanding and studying geometry and dynamics, she completed her bachelor’s degree in mathematics at Tehran's Sharif University of Technology (SUT) in 2017, and in the same year, she was directly accepted to a doctoral program at Harvard.
Information from the SUT shows that Torkaman is the fifth Iranians who succeeded to receive a PhD from Harvard University after Farshid Jamshidian (1980), Pirooz Vakili (1988), Maryam Mirzakhani (2004) and Ali Akbar Daemi (2014).
