Tehran, IRNA- Iranian border guards have ramped up efforts to tighten security along the country's southeastern borders with Afghanistan and Pakistan, arresting over 2,600 foreign nationals for trying to enter the country illegally over the past week.

Border guards at Saravan and Zabol border crossings arrested 2,639 foreign nationals who intended to enter Iran illegally from the common borders with Afghanistan and Pakistan over the past week, Colonel Reza Shojaei, Border Guard commander of Sistan and Baluchestan province, said on Saturday

Another 19,177 illegal border crossers were also returned home before crossing the border, he told IRNA.

Calling border security a “top priority” for the border guards under his command, Shojaei emphasized that foreign nationals must pursue legal channels for entering, residing in, and leaving the Islamic Republic.
