Raisi made the remarks in a meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus on Wednesday.
“Many regional and extra-regional changes have failed to impact the brotherly relations between the two countries and Iran and Syria proved they were right in their positions,” said Raisi.
During the meeting, Assad stressed that the Syrian government and people will not forget the support of their Iranian brothers, adding that Iran should have an effective presence in establishing lasting peace in Syria and in efforts to rebuild the country after years of war.
In a joint meeting of high-ranking delegations of the two countries, the Iranian and Syrian presidents emphasized that relations between Tehran and Damascus have been stable even in difficult periods and despite severe political and security issues in the Middle East region.
Raisi arrived in Syria on Wednesday morning for a historic visit amid deepening relations between the two key members of the regional resistance alliance against the Zionist regime.
After his arrival in the Syrian capital Damascus, President Raisi was officially welcomed by President Assad in the People’s Palace.
Four government ministers, Iran’s top banker, Raisi’s chief of staff and his chief political advisor accompany him during the visit to Syria.
Raisi is in Syria on an official invitation from President Bashar al-Assad. The visit is the first visit by an Iranian president to Syria in 12 years.
