Over €1.3m in addition to more than 22,000 billion rials ($440 million) have been allocated to the construction of the gas refinery in Hoveyzeh that was launched on Friday.
The Persian Gulf Hoveyzeh Gas Refinery will produce some 7,318 metric tons of natural gas liquids (NGLs and 6,649 metric tons (mt) of sweet gas as well as 41 metric tons of solid sulfur per day.
By implementation of this environmental project, flare gas from oilfields in West Karun region will be recovered and processed and CO2 emissions from the oilfields will reduce by 15 million mt per year.
The project will also help reduce air pollution in the metropolitan city of Ahvaz which is the capital of Khuzestan province.
Activities in the Persian Gulf Hoveyzeh Gas Refinery and Persian Gulf Bidboland Gas Refinery, both located in Khuzestan, will help Iran fulfill 70% of its environmental commitments regarding the recovery of flare gas.
President Raisi along with a number of his cabinet members arrived in Khuzestan on Thursday (April 27) to open various projects and meet with people in the region.
