Tehran, IRNA- Iranian security forces have seized a massive depot of weapons, including thousands of rounds of ammunition and handguns, along border regions of western Iran, an official has said.

A total of 11,395 cartridges, 60 Colt pistols and 10 Kalashnikov rifles were confiscated by the border guard regiment of Dehloran, Ilam, district judge Einollah Niazifar told IRNA on Wednesday.

A suspect was taken into custody, he added.

“We will not allow any arms trafficking in the region, and the smugglers will be dealt with according to the law,” he noted.

The official said arms trafficking is “a red line” for Iran’s law enforcement and judicial system, adding that weapons and ammunition are often smuggled into the country with the aim of harming national security.
