Tehran, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has said that the quartet meeting with participation of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Pakistan, Russia and China reviewed the concerns about the situation in Afghanistan.

Measures to fight against drug smuggling and help prepare a proper space for girls and women to study in Afghanistan were among the important issues at the meeting, Amirabdollahian told reporters on the sidelines of the meeting participated by the four countries’ foreign ministers.

Amirabdollahian enumerated the spread of terrorism, rise in the number of refugees and crises created by the continuation of the US and the West sanctions as some issues in Afghanistan which have caused concern.

Also, necessity of serious control of drug smuggling in the borders, particularly on borders with the Islamic Republic of Iran, and accountability of the caretaker government in Afghanistan for the issue were reviewed, the Iranian foreign minister added.

Iran is ready to help Afghan women and children study through holding classes in person and online, Amirabdollahian underlined.

Amirabdollahian at the head of an Iranian delegation arrived in the Uzbek city of Samarkand on Thursday to attend the fourth ministerial meeting of Afghanistan’s neighboring states with the participation of Islamic Republic and six other countries.

Holding the second foreign ministerial meeting of Iran, Russia, China and Pakistan was also among the plans in Uzbekistan.
