Borujerd, IRNA – Security authorities in western Iran say they have made arrests in relation to a new attempt to poison school pupils.

The public relations office of the governorship of the city of Borujerd in Iran’s Lorestan Province said late on Tuesday that a number of people who had intended to poison students in the city were arrested.

The statement said those arrested had been seeking to cause anxiety among pupils and their families in several schools of Borujerd, adding that intelligence, security and police authorities had been involved in the operation to arrest the suspects.

The statement comes nearly a month after a wave of poisoning at schools across Iran led to illnesses among students.

Authorities then launched an investigation into the case which led to arrest warrants for dozens of people.
