Israeli military’s Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi was quoted on Wednesday as saying that Israel is “ready” to attack Iran and can do so even without support from the United States.
“We are ready to act against Iran. The Israeli army has the ability to strike both in distant countries and near home,” Halevi told the Israeli military’s army radio.
“We know how to act alone. We are a sovereign nation that reserves the right to make its own decisions. It would be good to have the United States on our side, but it is not an obligation,” he added.
Iranian Army Chief Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi said on Monday that those remarks were merely intended to “boost the morale” of the Israeli soldiers in order for the regime to solve its internal woes.
“Anyone who has the slightest familiarity with the military affairs of the two sides would know well that the Zionist regime is on par with the updated size and scale of [Iran’s] operations during the eight years of our Holy Defense,” he said.
General Mousavi asserted that the Zionist regime, which is drowning in problems of its own making, is far too petty to be considered a threat to the Islamic Republic of Iran.
“The irrational actions of the rulers of this regime will only accelerate the process of their collapse,” he added.
The comments come amid growing tensions between Iran and Israel after two Iranian military advisers were killed in Syria late last month in an Israeli airstrike near the country’s capital Damascus.
