Tehran, IRNA – The US has been trying to conceal the decline of its power in the world by sending submarines and bombers to West Asia despite the region’s lack of need for extra-regional military forces, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said Monday.

In a Twitter thread, Kanaani said the US moves run counter to the will of the nations of West Asia and only promote instability and discord in the volatile region.

While the new equations of the region foreshadow the formation of a new order and the lack of need for extra-regional military forces, the occasional news of the US' deployment of submarines, movement of ships, or deployment of bombers to West Asia is part of the US government’s struggle to cover up the decline of its power in the world, he wrote.

Kanaani then argued that the US regime has moved against the will of regional nations through its warmongerings and promotion of instability in the region.

Washington must realistically understand the new realities and avoid trying to interfere in West Asia and the Persian Gulf for the interests of the unstable Zionist regime, he added.

Last week, Washington announced that it was relocating an aircraft carrier in the Mediterranean to the coast near Syria, amid soaring tensions with Iran after targeting Iranian military advisors in the Arab country.

Days later, the US announced that a nuclear-powered guided-missile submarine has been dispatched to West Asia to support the US Fifth Fleet, which is based in Bahrain.

Iran has repeatedly warned against the deployment of US-led foreign military forces in the region, maintaining that they only add to the security problems of the region.
