Tehran, IRNA – The Iran- Russia Joint Chamber of Commerce says that efforts made by the administration of President Ebrahim Raisi has facilitated development of exchanges between Moscow and Tehran.

Vice chairman of Iran-Russia Joint Chamber of Commerce Kambiz Mir-Karimi told IRNA in an exclusive interview on Tuesday that both countries signed a ruble-rial trading agreement in last Iranian calendar year (ended March 20, 2023) and the banking and monetary cooperation is pursued by both nations.

The dual exchange rate and the difference of currencies with the free market caused some interventions in the development of the process of trading in ruble and rial, but the banking connections concerning monetary field have been created and it is working now, Mir-Karimi said.

According to the official, the connection of Shetab, Mir payment systems between Iran and Russia is a very important measure.

Marketing, participating in exhibitions and exchanging trade delegations can pave the way for development of trade and economic exchanges between economic operators of the two countries, he noted.

Some Russian cities such as Kazan are mostly inhabited by Muslims; so, Halal food market in these regions can improve export opportunities for Iranian merchants, he argued.

Russia and Iran also signed logistics agreements, including the increase of number of ships in the Caspian Sea and the enhancement of railways, waterways and roads of the International North–South Transport Corridor (INSTC), the official said.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he pointed to signing of free trade agreement between Iran and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) in the Raisi administration, which is a significant move in reaching a zero tariff of trade goods.

He further stated that thanks to President Raisi’s visits and negotiations, Turkmenistan accepted to allow Iran’s trucks cross the Central Asian country to reach Russia.
